Who we are

Matremaga Physiotherapy was created by Melinda Sandon after 8 years in the private sector, working as a clinical leader training other physiotherapists in the area of women’s health specialisation. Her vision for the home-based holistic clinical model is in response to years of hearing what women really want from their physiotherapy experience, to take back their bodies and own their healthcare. Whether we meet in my home our yours, please feel welcome and comfortable to be yourself and find your place to heal, educate and inspire.

After completing her physiotherapy degree in 2004, Melinda had the opportunity to work in a number of public and private hospitals around Sydney and the Illawarra, gaining a wide knowledge of neurological, surgical and orthopaedic fields. Her passion for rehabilitation in the community served as a excellent basis for realising the scope of holistic care, both in and out of medical institutions. She became keenly interested in women’s health in 2007, completing further education as an antenatal educator at RPA birth centre and test-driving several birth suites whilst delivering her four children, between 2007 and 2019. The process of postpartum recovery after each delivery, and her fanatical love of distance running, drove her to learn every possible strategy to optimise her functional movement and health between babies.

Melinda and her husband Nathan settled in Thirroul 8 years ago, raising their four school aged children, chickens and dog by the beach. After many years “in the trenches” of motherhood, Melinda also endured advanced pelvic cancer treatment throughout 2023, giving her experiential knowledge of the challenges of survivorship, medical menopause and functional recovery after surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Thankfully she has made a full recovery and is passionate about helping women of all ages and stages to achieve optimal health and enjoy the weird and wonderful journey of womanhood.
